Mrs. Rebecca Marie Stover, 81, of Frederick, passed away peacefully with her daughter by her side in her home on April 23, 2025.
Born November 4, 1943 in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Edith (Stouter) Haley. Mrs. Stover was married to Joseph Elwood Stover for 52 years until his death in 2018.
Mrs. Stover spent her childhood in Emmitsburg, Maryland and graduated from Mother Seton High School in 1960. Together with her husband, she owned and operated Frederick staple Stover’s Hearth and Patio for over 50 years until it closed in 2024. Her love of design and gardening was on display in the beautiful showroom on route 40 West in Frederick and in the gardens she and Mr. Stover maintained in their home in Braddock Heights, Maryland. It was there that they spent their lives raising their family and enjoying time and fellowship with lifelong friends.
Mrs. Stover’s devoted daughter, Jacqueline Marie Stover, cared for her mother in her later years and together they spent as much time as they could in the family home on St. Croix in the U. S. Virgin Islands. Mrs. Stover was happiest among friends and family and especially by the pool enjoying the warm sun on her face and the gentle island breeze.
Mrs. Stover is survived by her daughter, Jackie, and a son, Christopher; grandchildren Katie and Alex Stover; brothers John and Gerald (Jody); nieces Laura (TJ) Frazier and nephew Eric Corbin (Laura) and great nieces and nephews Haley, Reagan, Eleanor, Woodrow and Caledonia. Mrs. Stover will be missed by her best friend Ellen Kulman, family friend Mark Bannis, Jr and his daughter Shabouka and her dear grand-dogs, Bonnie and Clyde Stover; she was predeceased by her sister and closest confidant Susan Corbin, brother Joseph (Mary), their son Joseph.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 1, 2025, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick.
Funeral services will be held on Friday May 2, 2025, at 2:00 p.m at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 515 South Market Street, Frederick.
In lieu of of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
