R. Douglas Smith Jr.

March 4, 1957 — January 10, 2014

Mr. Raymond Douglas “Doug” Smith Jr. 56, of Mt. Airy died on Friday, January 10, 2014 at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Pamela R. Smith.

Born on March 4, 1957 in Darien. CT., he was the son of Marilyn Adrian Smith of Ladylake, Fl., and the late Raymond D. Smith Sr. He was a 1975 graduate of Grimsley High School, and a 1979 graduate of UNC-Greensboro.

Doug was an Eagle Scout and longtime owner of Carwithen Associates Inc. He was the 2012-2013 President of the Linganore High School Band Boosters and a life-time supporter of many music and arts programs.

Surviving in addition to his wife and mother are five children, Robin E. Minette and husband Gregory A., Emily K. Clites and husband Daniel C., Ryan D. Smith and twins Julie M. and Jeffrey M. Smith. Grandchildren Taylor and Justin. Sister Cheryl L. Allgood and husband David, brother Ronald L. Smith and companion Ruth St. John and Sister Debra L. Ivey and husband Lindley. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at the Stauffer Funeral Homes P. A., 8 East Ridgeville Blvd, Mt. Airy on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 from 2-4 & 7-9pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, January 16, 2014, 11:00am at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, 1200 St. Michael’s Road, Poplar Springs, MD. Father Michael J. Ruane will officiate. Interment will be private.
