Raymond Ellsworth Pettingall, Jr., 102, of Middletown, passed from this life on Monday, December 12, 2022 at Frederick Health Hospital. Twice married, he was predeceased by his wives, Frances Virginia Pettingall and Josephine Derr.
Born on June 22, 1920, in Frederick, he was the son of the late Raymond Ellsworth Pettingall, Sr. and Nannie B. (Wisner) Pettingall.
He was a graduate of Frederick High School, Class of 1938, and the Baltimore Business College.
Mr. Pettingall was a veteran of the United States Army, having served with the 85th Infantry Division, Italian Campaign during World War II.
Prior to his career and later retirement from Potomac Edison, he owned and operated a grocery store in Edgewater, MD.
He was a long-time member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Walkersville.
Additionally, he was a member of the FSK American Legion Post #11 in Frederick.
Surviving Mr. Pettingall are three daughters, Patricia A. Pettingall, Carol L. O'Brien, and Deborah Darlene Sisk and husband, Micah; granddaughter, Kieron O'Brien; step-children, Donna L. Warner and husband Frank, William E. Derr and wife Barbara, J. Scott Derr, and Roberta Leaverton and husband Bruce, and their families.
The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at Stauffer Funeral Homes, P.A., 1621 Opossumtown Pike in Frederick, with a celebration of his life to begin at 11:00 a.m. Officiating will be Pastor Phil Beck.
Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mr. Pettingall's memory to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 14 W. Pennsylvania Ave., Walkersville, MD 21793.
