Raymond Kolander

April 4, 1930 — June 9, 2015

Raymond George Kolander, 85, of Frederick died Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Marcia.

Born April 4, 1930 in Shattuck, Oklahoma, he was the son of William and Hilda (Ehrlich) Kolander.

Ray graduated from the School for the Deaf in Sulphur, Oklahoma and from Gallaudet University. He taught at the Montana and Nebraska Schools for the Deaf and was an associate Professor of Mathematics at Gallaudet University for 34 years.

He also loved antique cars and writing poetry.

He was a devoted father of two children, Rayna (and husband, Gary), and Greg (and wife, Dara). Ray is also survived by two grandchildren, Nicky and Paige; three step-daughters, Charlotte, Constance and Candice; and his siblings, June, Bill and Gary.

A memorial service will begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 13, 2015 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, followed by a visitation with friends.

Ray will be interred next to his first wife, Bonnie, at Fort Lincoln Cemetery at a future date.
