Mr. Raymond W. Klinger, 80, of Thurmont, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 15, 2023, surrounded by family at Edenton Retirement Community in Frederick, Maryland after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

Ray is survived by his sons, Matthew Klinger (Jessica) and Ryan Klinger (Stephanie); his brother, Michael Klinger (Becky) and sister, Christina Fisher; his precious grandchildren, Joshua, Isaac, Lylah, and Natalie. He is also remembered by many nieces and nephews. Ray is also survived by his former spouse, Drusilla Tresselt.
He was preceded in death by his parents and nephew, Aaron.
Following graduation from Sunbury High School, Ray received a Bachelor of Science in biology from Susquehanna University. After spending time working in the food testing industry, Ray returned to the education community and earned a Master of Science in biology from Bucknell University. A lifelong learner, Ray then studied at Penn State University earning many credits towards a Ph.D. in Entomology.
Professionally, Ray spent over 45 years at Hunting Creek Fisheries, Inc., an ornamental fish hatchery in Thurmont, Maryland, as part of the family management team that’s operated the farm since 1924. Ray was a vital part of the business’s growth and development over the years, becoming well known in the aquaculture community in the United States as well as Europe. Ray was an active member of National Ornamental Goldfish Growers Association.
Ray was a proud father and enjoyed being involved in activities with his sons and grandchildren. During several years in the 1990’s he was on the Board of Directors at St. John’s at Prospect Hall. Ray loved a challenge, and his intelligent, problem-solving mind tackled many over the years. He enjoyed learning, reading, antiquing, and especially loved collecting Carnival Glass. Seeking and negotiating the acquisition of rare, perfect pieces for his collection was a passion.
