Raymond Hewitt

January 10, 1930 — December 13, 2014

Mr. Raymond (Shadow) L Hewitt, 84 of Mountaindale passed away peacefully on December 13, 2014 at his home with his family by his side.                                                                                                                                      Born in Mountaindale on January 10, 1930 He was the son of the late Raymond W. and Leona Brice Hewitt. He was the loving husband of Mary Dolores Craver Hewitt, his wife of 61 years.
Shadow retired from the Essroc Corporation (formerly Alpha Portland Cement) in 1994 as a Lab
Chemist.  He started his career with the organization in 1958 as a sample boy. He worked for 10 years with Napa Auto Parts.   He loved the mountains where you would often find him for hour’s trout fishing.  He enjoyed watching sports.  He was a fan of the Baltimore Ravens and the Baltimore Orioles.  He enjoyed family gatherings, telling stories, and bringing smiles and laughter to all.  He enjoyed mornings playing keno and drinking coffee with locals. But most of all he loved his family.
Surviving in addition to his wife are 6 children.  Linda Cupp, Martinsburg, WV, Darlene and Bobby Martin, Hedgesville, WV, Carl Hewitt, Walkersville, Kathy and Buddy Angleberger, Emmitsburg , Janet Hewitt and fiancé Tom Difranco, Mt Airy, and his youngest daughter and main caregiver Angel Hewitt , Mountaindale.
He has 24 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren. He is survived by a sister Patricia Wolfe, Frederick. He is survived by his aunts Dolly Tomlin and Ester Clements, sister- in-law Evelyn Hewitt, brother -in -law Sonny Craver and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.  He will also be remembered by a special friends Glen Gibbons, Jeremy Hahn,  the owners, employees and patrons of the Mountaindale Convenience Store and anyone who may had  the pleasure of knowing him.  He will be sadly missed by his grandchildren Jessica, Nicki, Michael and Tonya who helped care for him.
Raymond was predeceased by a son Kenneth Ray Hewitt, a brother Russell “Buck” Hewitt and a son-in -law Ralph Cupp.
The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home 104E Main Street, Thurmont, Tuesday December 16 from 2-4 and 7-9pm where services will be held Wednesday December 17 at 1pm with Rev. Warren Rice officiating.
Interment Lewistown Cemetery
Serving as Pallbearers are grandsons, Rob Martin, Robert Myers, James Angleberger, Jay Angleberger Joseph Angleberger, Michael Hahn, Matt Albright, and Patrick Woodby.
