Raymond Rice

August 30, 1930 — July 21, 2010

Mr. Raymond E. Rice, 79 of Frederick, Maryland died Wednesday, July 21, 2010, at the Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of the late Beulah Smith Rice who passed away in 2009. They were married 54 years.

Born August 30, 1930, in Graceham, MD, he was the son of the late Eli and Anna Mae Boller Rice.

He grew up in Mountaindale, MD, enjoying fishing, hunting and being with his family. He was a pitcher for the Mountaindale softball team; he bowled, played horseshoes, and later in life enjoyed golf, family history research, and local Frederick history.

He was a graduate of Frederick High School in 1947. After graduation, he served as a radio operator in the United States Navy. He was employed at the Atomic Energy Commission in Germantown, MD, and later retired from the Frederick Post Office in 1986 after 30 years of service.

Mr. Rice was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Braddock Heights Ward, serving in many roles. He was quick to offer service to others.

He is survived by his two daughters, Karen Retorick and husband David of Frederick, Kaylene Rice and companion Dale Henderson of Warfordsburg, PA, granddaughter, Chase Retorick and grandson, Garian Rice; his sisters, Doris Poole, Olive Mullican, Irene Tomalewski, Anna Mae Luther, and his brother Richard Rice, and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be remembered by family, many friends, and acquaintances.

The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick on Saturday, July 24th from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 199 North Place, Frederick on Monday, July 26h at 10:00am. Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.
