Ray Junior Snyder, 87, of Sharpsburg, Maryland, passed from this life on Thursday, March 27, 2014 at Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, Maryland.
Born on June 25, 1926, in Big Pool, Maryland, he was the son of the late Bruce Nevin and Lucy Irene (Blake) Snyder. His wife of 56 years, Edith Fannie (Mills) Snyder, preceded him in death on August 13, 2004.
Junior was a veteran of the United States Navy having served aboard the U.S.S. Wright (CVL-49) during World War II.
He retired in 1987 after 26 years from Mack Truck in Hagerstown.
Junior was a member of Burnside First Church of God in Sharpsburg where he had served as a Deacon and an Elder.
He also was a member and served as Chaplain of the Sharpsburg American Legion Post 236, the U.S.S. Wright Association, and the Antietam-Dargan Ruritan Club.
He is survived by one son, Dallas Eugene Snyder and wife Betty, of Sharpsburg; one daughter, Bonnie Jean Ridenour and husband Paul, of Greencastle, Pennsylvania; one brother, Archie G. Snyder, of Williamsport, Maryland; and three grandchildren, Chad Allan Ridenour, of Sharpsburg, Bray Andrew Ridenour and wife Stacey of Hoboken, New Jersey, and Julia Elizabeth Snyder of Sharpsburg. He is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Morgan and Madison Ridenour.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Snyder and Mary Burton; and four brothers, Elwood, Irvin, Roy, and Lee Snyder.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 31, 2014 at the Burnside First Church of God, 3904 Mills Road in Sharpsburg. Rev. Ernest E. Witmer will officiate. Final resting place ceremonies will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Sharpsburg, where military honors will be rendered by the Clopper-Michael American Legion Post 10 from Boonsboro.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, March 30, 2014 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike in Boonsboro, as well as one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
