Ray Dyson

February 22, 1950 — December 4, 2014

Mr.  Ray S. Dyson, 64, of Mt. Airy, MD passed away at his home on the morning of December 4, 2014, surrounded by his family, after a courageous 6-month battle with lung cancer.  Known as “Steve” to his family and friends, he was born on February 22, 1950, in Mountain City, TN, and was the son of the late Thomas C. and Grace Alice (Taylor) Dyson.  He was the husband of Patricia A. (Trish) Dyson, of Mt. Airy, MD, whom he married June 19, 1969.

Steve’s working career began in the electrical utility industry 45 years ago.  Prior to his passing, Steve worked for 33 years as a General Foreman with C. W. Wright Construction Co., and was formerly employed with Ivy H. Smith Co. as a Foreman for 12 years.  In this capacity, Steve was responsible for managing and directing the many facets of underground electrical transmission/power line services at each utility company.  He was also a retiree of Montgomery College, Rockville, MD, where he worked part-time for 17 years in the Maintenance Department.

Steve will fondly be remembered by his family and friends for many things:  his deep, committed love for his wife Trish and sons Rick/Scott; the pride he displayed in his strong work ethic; his honesty, sensitivity and generosity toward others before thinking of himself; the care he took in the maintenance of his home and his landscaping/gardening projects; the friendships he cultivated; and hosting family and friend get-togethers where everyone was always warmly welcomed.

In addition to his loving wife, Steve is survived by a son, Richard S. (Rick) Dyson of Jessup, MD, and siblings Thomas C. Dyson Jr. and wife Nancy of Mt. Airy, MD; Wade Dyson and wife Dorothy of Clayton, NC; Kathy Dixon and husband Larry of Rockville, MD; Judy Van and husband Rob of Elizabeth, TN; brother-in-law William Congdon and wife Patricia of Brookeville, MD; sister-in-law Judy Stine of Chambersburg, PA; and a number of nieces and nephews.   Steve was preceded in death by his youngest son,  Scott E. Dyson; his parents; and sisters Joan Dunn and Peggy Dunn.

To celebrate Steve’s life, a memorial service will be held at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 East Ridgeville Blvd., Mt. Airy, MD 21771, on Saturday, December 13, 2014, at 1:00 p.m.  Chaplain Hare Varnon will officiate. A reception will follow at Calvery United Methodist Church, 403 South Main Street, Mt. Airy, MD 21771.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, in memory of Ray Steven Dyson, American Cancer Society, P.O.
