Ray Downs

Mr. Ray A. Downs, 66, of Thurmont, Maryland, passed away Friday, October 15, 2010 at Genesis Healthcare, Gettysburg. He was the husband of Audrey Babylon Downs, his wife of 48 years.

Born April 1, 1944 in Gettysburg, PA, he was the son of the late Kenneth and Anna Eyler Downs.

Mr. Downs retired from Potts and Callahan in Baltimore and was a member of the Local Union #37. He was also a member of the Sons of the American Legion Post #168. Ray loved spending time with his family and grandchildren, playing cards and was known for "Always Making A Dollar". Mr. Downs and his wife were foster parents for 22 years.

In addition to his wife he is survived by five children Cathy Ligsay and husband Gerardo, Lisa Clabaugh, Angie Downs, Lori Govans and husband Ronald all of Thurmont and Tisha Stevens and husband David of Woodsboro, a special great niece Dawn Perez, ten grandchildren Eric and Bryan Ligsay, Allen Downs, Misty Clabaugh, Tommy and Melissa Downs, LaRae Wood, Ian Smith, Joshua and Justin Stevens, two great grandchildren Andre and Ava Ligsay, his siblings Linda Free and husband Robert, Kermit Downs and wife Lilly, Susie Cool and husband, Debbie Wolfe, Rosie Hatcher and husband Alvin, Jeff Downs and wife Judy and Karen Eiker and husband Kenneth, sister-in-law Sherry Downs and many nieces and nephews. He will also be remembered by Stanley Clabaugh and Michael Smith. He was preceded in death by his twin brother Robert Downs.

The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 E. Main Street, Thurmont on Wednesday, October 20, from 1:00 p.m. until service time at 2:00 p.m. Mr. Jerry Free will officiate.

Interment will be private.
