Ray Claude Hoffman

September 27, 1935 — July 25, 2023

Boonsboro

Ray Claude Hoffman, 87, of, Boonsboro, Maryland passed from this life on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, Maryland.  He was the beloved husband of Doris Hoffman for 65 years.

Born on September 27, 1935, in Lisburn, Pennsylvania, Ray was the son of the late Earl & Sarah Hoffman.

Ray graduated from Mechanicsburg High School in Pennsylvania in 1953. After high school, he continued to work in the family milling business in Lisburn. Ray and his brother Paul eventually took over the family business, and then in 1968, moved the business and the family to Boonsboro. In his early years in town, he managed several softball teams and made many longtime friends.

After settling in, Ray purchased a farm where he and his family spent time raising beef cattle, pigs, and grain for the mill. Upon retiring from the mill and the farming life, Ray and Doris moved to Main Street in Boonsboro. Here they spent many happy years entertaining kids, grandkids and friends. Despite being a very active member of the town, one of the things Ray loved most was sitting on his porch watching the traffic and monitoring the town’s activities.

In addition to his wife Doris M. Hoffman, Ray is survived by five children; son Donald Hoffman and his wife Kami, son Jeff Hoffman and his friend Michael Smith, daughter Laurie Metz and her husband Jay, son Michael Hoffman and his wife Keli, and son Bradly Hoffman and his wife Sandra. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, his sister Doris J. Hoffman, and his brother Harry Hoffman.

He is preceded in death by his brothers Paul Hoffman and Carl Hoffman.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 pm on Sunday, July 30, 2023, at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home 7606 Old National Pike, where a celebration of Ray's life journey will take place at 10:30 am on Monday, July 31, 2023, at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home.
