Ray Talbott Axline, 79, of Shepherdstown, West Virginia, passed from this life on Thursday, September 26, 2024, at Frederick Health Hospital in Frederick, Maryland surrounded by his loving family.
Born on March 9, 1945, in Frederick, MD, he was the son of Charles Lloyd Axline and Mary Catherine (Rohrer) Axline. Ray graduated from Brunswick High School, Class of 1963. After high school, Ray worked for Frederick Motor Company and Firestone. He then started his 40-year career at Potomac Edison as a lineman for the county.
Ray briefly served as burgess of Rosemont, MD. Ray was a charter member of the Petersville Ruritan Club. He belonged to the Eagles 1136 and the Brunswick and Charles Town Moose. He was also known to frequent the Moose Club in Emporium, PA. Ray was also a member of the Bobby’s Run Hunt Club and Free State Retreat. He loved his family, his sister, the outdoors, all things hunting and fishing. He loved his boat, the Potomac River, Coors lite and crabs. He loved his friends, he loved to talk and get to know people. He never met a stranger. He loved his garage door opened to invite friends in. He loved to garden, to cook and to share it. He loved to piddle in his garage. He was a fixer of things. He loved his country and spotting a bald eagle was the highlight of his day. He was not a sports “man” but he was a sportsman. He loved his old country music. In his later days, he loved to sit and watch the river go by.
He is survived by his partner, Brigid Pohl, his daughter, Christine Spielman, his son, Charles Ray (Melissa) Axline, his grandson Marcus Spielman and his sister Beverly Meadows. Along with numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He was known as “Pap” and “Uncle” to many.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Monday, September 30, 2024, at Stauffer Funeral Homes, 1100 North Maple Avenue in Brunswick, MD. A celebration of Ray's life journey will take place at 11:00 am on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, at the funeral home.
