Randolph "Randy" K. Larsen, Jr., PhD, 78, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, surrounded by loving family at his home in Mount Airy, MD. He shared the past 56 years with his beloved wife M. Jane (née Simmers) Larsen. Born March 16, 1945, in Baltimore City, MD, he was the son of Randolph Kenneth Larsen and Mary Julia (née Cosgrove) Larsen.
 
He graduated from Calvert Hall College High School in Baltimore, MD in 1963.  Dr. Larsen earned his Bachelor’s Degree from LaSalle University in Philadelphia, PA and Master's and Doctoral Degree from the University of Maryland, College Park. Randy served as Chief in the Safety Operations Section, and retired as Assistant to the Director, Division of Occupational Health and Safety in the Office of the Director, after 40 years at the National Institutes of Health.
 
Dr. Larsen, a devoted Catholic, was a long time parishioner of St. Michael Poplar Springs Catholic Church.
 
Randy enjoyed woodworking and building, reflected throughout the home he built 40 years ago with his brother, Timothy. He held a great appreciation for history and fine craftsmanship. He spent his free time and retirement years reading, researching, watching his favorite sports teams, or any activities involving his beloved grandchildren.
 
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Randolph Larsen, III (wife Kimberly), Kate Gossard (husband Ben), and Christine Larsen; grandchildren: Randolph Larsen, IV, Colleen Larsen, Kara Gossard, and Erin Gossard; brothers: Michael, Robert, and Timothy Larsen; and many devoted relatives and friends.
 
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 19 from 2:00 - 4:00 and 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 East Ridgeville Boulevard, Mt. Airy.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 20 at 11:00 am at St. Michael Poplar Springs Catholic Church, 1125 St. Michael's Road, Mount Airy.  Father Kurt will serve as celebrant. Interment will be at St. Michael Poplar Springs Catholic Church Cemetery. Church service will be live streamed via St. Michael's YouTube for those unable to celebrate Randy's life in-person.
 
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Randolph K. and Mary Julia Larsen Scholarship at Calvert Hall College, 8102 LaSalle Road, Towson, MD 21286 or any charitable organization of your choice.
