Ralph L. Baltzell

Mr. Ralph L. Baltzell, 87 of Thurmont, MD., died Tuesday, December 8, 2009 at the Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of the late Mary Ferguson Baltzell.

Born August 19, 1922 in Maryland, he was the son of the late Charles and Edith Adams Baltzell.

Mr. Baltzell retired after 35+ years working for the Maryland State Roads Commission. He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, the MD Classified Employees Association and a life member of the Knights of Columbus Brute 1860.

Mr. Baltzell is survived by three children Ann Irelan and husband Ralph of Emmitsburg, Michael Baltzell and wife Elaine of Louisville, TN and Susan Bergstrom and husband Craig of Cummings, GA, grandchildren Christopher Irelan, Mary Trapane, Rachael Abernathy, Sarah Bergstrom, Katherine Bergstrom, and Leah Bergstrom, great grandchildren Nicholas and Anna Trapane, her sister Virginia Hildebrand of Frederick. Many nieces and nephews also survive. He will be remembered by his special friend Winnie Gernand.

He was preceded in death by his brothers Kenneth, Raymond and Donald Baltzell and a sister Mildred Curfman..

Visitation: The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 E. Main Street, Thurmont on Friday, December 11, from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m.

Services: Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, December 12, at 11:00 a.m. From Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, N. Church Street, Thurmont with Father Mike Kuhn as Celebrant and Deacon John Hawkins officiating. Interment Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cemetery.
