Ralph Lee Koontz, 87, of Brockton Drive, Jefferson, MD, died Thursday, September 27, 2007 at Washington Hospital Center, Washington, D.C.
Born December 3, 1919 in Jefferson, MD, he was the son of the late Ralph O. and Amanda Taylor Koontz.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth Eleanor Taulton Koontz.
He was a decorated veteran of the United States Army serving in WWII.
He worked for 30 years with his family milk hauling business, Koontz's Milk Transportation. He retired from Montgomery County Public Schools as a bus mechanic.
He was a member of Boonsboro Bible Church.
He was a lifelong avid hunter, fisher, trapper and camper. He was known for making custom porch and yard swings.
Surviving are his loving wife, Annie Painter Cooper, whom he married May 8, 1977; son, Edmond Koontz and wife, Trish, of Hagerstown; daughters, Judy L. Virts of Frederick, MD and Holly Summers and husband, Wes, of Braddock Heights, MD; step daughter, Lorena Pappalardo and husband, Tony, of Middletown; daughter-in-law, Cherry Cooper Whitmore and husband, Bob, of Jefferson; grandchildren, Nicole Wangness, Heidi Chisholm, Stacy Andree, Tina Carroll, Judy Smith, Ralph Edmond Carroll, Eugenia Stephens and husband, David, Tauri Summers, Merick Summers, Johnny and wife, Christine, Cooper and Michael Cooper; great-grandchildren, Bailie, Dylan, Reilly, Brittany, Ryan, Kaitlyn, Joseph, Spencer, Carly, Ryan, Darren and Tyler; great-great grandson, Alexander; sisters, Peggy Strausburg of Jefferson, Miriam Oland of FL and Betty Easterday of Frederick and Phyllis; brothers, Jack Koontz of WVA, George "Dick" Koontz of Jefferson and William Koontz of Frederick; sisters-in-law; Katrina Koontz of Frederick, Ellen Cooper of Jefferson, Maxine Hamilton of VA and Evelyn Ayers of WV; brother-in-law, Renace Painter and wife, Louise of Lovettsville, VA; several loving nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by step son, Petie Cooper; sister, Thelma Hanley; brothers, Robert Koontz and Samuel Koontz.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, October 3 at Boonsboro Bible Church. Rev. Robert D. Welty will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Frederick, MD.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bast Funeral Home in Boonsboro and one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.
