Ralph Franklin Howell, of Hagerstown, Maryland, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2023 at the age of 83 years. Ralph was born Jan. 3, 1940 to the late Mary Killian. He spent most of his life in Maryland but later moved to a small town near Ocala, Florida.
Ralph's love of horses was evident in everything he did. He owned several world-champion quarter horses. His children and colleagues often commented on his "good eye for horse flesh." He not only took care of horses his entire life, but he also worked as an accomplished auctioneer, truck driver, explosives technician, and was a member of the Army Reserves. He was well-respected in the horse community.
Ralph was well known for his charming nature, especially with the ladies. Some say it's a Howell charm passed down through the generations. Ralph always had a camera in his hand to snap pictures of his beloved family. He has thousands of memories frozen in time with his extensive collection. He always had a story to tell you and they almost always involved a horse or politics.
Ralph was predeceased by his mother, Mary and sister, Virginia.
Ralph is survived by his children, Ralph (Karen), Randy (Steven), Robert (Dixie), Mary, Matthew (Tracy), and Michael (Denise). In addition, he is survived by his grandchildren, Olivia, Colleen, Garrett, Allison, Pricilla, Brendan, Ethan, Dallas, Montana, Michael, Jr., Alyssa, Logan, Robert, and Tabitha.
