Mr. Ralph E. Fornwald 87, of Thurmont, MD., passed away Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at his home. He was the husband of Helen Long Fornwald, his wife of 67 years.
Born August 30, 1924 in Washington, D. C., he was the son of the late Charles and Hilda Carlson Fornwald.
Mr. Fornwald was a member of Graceham Moravian Church, the AMVETS Post #7, American Legion Post #168 and the Thurmont Grange #409. Ralph had served as a member of the Thurmont Library Board and the Thurmont Park Commission. He served his Country in the US Navy during WWII. He was employed for many years at Ft. Detrick and later retired from NIH. After retirement he worked at Jubilee for several years. He enjoyed spending time with his family, gardening and trout fishing. Ralph always will be remembered for his wonderful smile.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children Beverly Weddle of Thurmont, Douglas Fornwald and wife Laura of Rocky Ridge and Deborah Fornwald of Thurmont. He will also be remembered by Michael and Christopher Miller. He was preceded in death by a daughter Karen Fornwald, a grandson Jay Richard Weddle, a sister Alice Stull and his son-in-law Jake Weddle.
The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 E. Main Street, Thurmont on Monday, May 14, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm, where services will be held Tuesday May 15, at 11:00 am with Rev. Sue Koenig officiating.
