Rachel Worth (Hackney) Sharitz, 76, of Boonsboro, Maryland, passed from this life on Monday, March 24, 2014 at her daughter's home in Sharpsburg, Maryland.
Born on October 5, 1937 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late James Cole and Mildred Alberta (Long) Hackney.
Rachel was a very active member of the Victory Baptist Church in Boonsboro and was an ongoing supporter of Feed the Children Charities. She dedicated her life to Christian witness and worshiping her Lord and Savior.
She loved spending time with her large extended family, who will fondly remember her love for antiques, gardening, cooking, and thrift store shopping.
Rachel is survived by her husband, Roy Lee Sharitz; four daughters, Brenda Hood and husband David of Boonsboro, Susan Jacobs and husband John of Sharpsburg, Billi Jo Wolford and husband Jeff of Round Hill, Virginia, and Barbara Oakes and husband Scott of Edinburg, Virginia; five sons, David Jarrell and wife Renee of Myersville, Maryland, Dennis Jarrell and wife Olga of Round Hill, Daniel Jarrell and wife Leona of Hedgesville, West Virginia, Joseph Jarrell and wife Robin of Purcellville, Virginia, and Thomas Jackson of Hamilton, Virginia; four sisters, Barbara Winterable of Delaware, Nancy Horton and husband Eldridge of Lincoln, Virginia, Lucille Redmen and husband Fritz of Ashburn, Virginia, and Carol Hopkins and husband Donnie of Florida; and three brothers, Larry Hackney and wife Gladys of Maurertown, Virginia, Tommy Hackney and wife Sandy and Ronny Hackney and wife Linda, all of Paeonian Springs, Virginia. She is also survived by fifteen grandchildren, and fifteen great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Marie Williams; and one brother, James Hackney.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike in Boonsboro. Rev. Edward J. Wade will officiate. Final resting place ceremonies will follow at the Hillsboro Cemetery in Hillsboro, Virginia.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 28, 2014 at the funeral home.
