Rachel Irene (Yokum) Leasure, 88, of Boonsboro, Maryland, passed from this life on Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at her place of residence.
Born in Chaneysville, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late John William and Lettie (Judy) Yokum. She is preceded in death by her husband Harry Ridgney Leasure.
Rachel was a graduate of Everett Area High School in Everett, Pennsylania. She worked for 26 years as an Accountant for the State of Maryland. She had been a resident of Boonsboro for 62 years. She was an active member of Boonsboro Bible Church where she served as Treasurer of the Building Committee. She was also active member of the Sunshine Class Sunday School.
She helped to support the Special Olympics and the Compassion International Organization serving disadvantaged children and orphans. In her spare time, Rachael was a avid bowler.
Rachel was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a lady of integrity and honesty who always put others needs above her own. Rachel never complained and was brave and positive until the end.
She is survived by her son Harry Richard Leasure, Sr. and wife Eleanor of Clearville, Pennsylvania; son-in-law Joe Liberatore of Havre de Grace, Maryland; brothers Richard Yokum and wife Dorothy and Denver Yokum and wife Bonnie both of Chaneysville, Pennsylvania; eight grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her daughter Judy C. (Leasure) Liberatore; brothers Lemuel and John Yokum; and sister Nellie (Yokum) Kight.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, September 16, 2013 at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, Maryland. Rev. Wayne Sloan will officiate.
Interment will be held on 2 p.m. on Monday, September 16, 2013 at the Rocky Gap Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Flintstone, Maryland. Immediately following interment, the family will gather with friends for fellowship at the Prosperity United Methodist Church near the cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, September 15, 2013 at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home in Boonsboro.
