Phyllis Rohrer

June 29, 1923 — August 27, 2011

Phyllis P. (Alderton) Rohrer, 88, of Hagerstown, Maryland passed peacefully  from this life to the next on Saturday, August 27, 2011 at her home surrounded  by her family.

Born on June 29, 1923, in Berkeley County, West Virginia she was the daughter  of the late Edward and Gladys (Mongan) Alderton. Phyllis was preceded in death  by her husband, Willard "Skip" L. Rohrer.

She was a graduate of St. Joseph's High School in Martinsburg, West Virginia  and attended Shepherd College in Shepherdstown, West Virginia.

Phyllis was an amazing mother, grandmother and mother-in-law. As a young  woman, she loved dancing and roller skating. In her retirement years, she  enjoyed taking bus trips, playing cards with friends and solving word puzzles.  Phyllis was a sweet soul who will be greatly missed by her loved ones.

Phyllis was employed by Fairchild Corporation and the Maryland Correctional Institution, retiring after twenty two years of employment.

She was a member of the Funkstown Homemakers, Funkstown Senior Citizens Organization and AARP.

Phyllis is survived by a son, Edward "Pete" Rohrer and his wife Connie of  Boonsboro, Maryland; a daughter, Carolyn and her husband Ted Shaw of Hagerstown  and a grandson Jeffrey Rohrer of Martinsburg. She is also survived by several  nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her parents and husband, Phyllis was preceded in death by a son, Michael Sheridan Rohrer; a granddaughter, Dawn Marie Rohrer and a sister,  Corinne Pugh of Martinsburg.

A funeral ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at  the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, Maryland. The  Rev. Mark Wastler will officiate. Final Resting Place ceremonies will follow at  Mountain View Cemetery in Sharpsburg, Maryland.

The family will receive friends from 6 - 8 p.m. on Monday, August 29, 2011 at  the funeral home.
