Phyllis (Miller) Scuffins

Born on November 6, 1928, in Williamsport, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Irene (Cunningham) Miller.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Scuffins, Jr. on April 25, 1990.

Phyllis worked as a nursing assistant for Washington County Hospital, retiring after twenty-five years of dedicated service.

When not spending time with her family, she enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, playing bingo, and needle pointing.

Phyllis is survived by two daughters, Charlene Lloyd  and her husband, John of Hagerstown and Patricia Simon of Orlando, Florida; three sons, George Scuffins and his wife, Catherine of Boonsboro, Galen Scuffins and his wife, Catherine of St. James, Maryland, and Darrell Scuffins of Boonsboro; eleven grandchildren, Gregory Leatherman of Sharpsburg, Caroline Smith of Eden, Maryland, Karen Leatherman of Hagerstown, Cathy Smith of Boonsboro, Jackie Davis of Boonsboro, Brandon Scuffins of Woodbridge, Virginia, Laura Scuffins of Frederick, Maryland, Lisa Mansaray of Hagerstown, Jennifer Johannsen of Keedysville, Peter Simon of Ft. Myers, Florida and Michael Simon of Orlando, Florida; and nine great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Ann Leatherman; a sister, Grace Miller; and two brothers, Elmore and Larry Miller.

A funeral ceremony will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 4, 2013 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, Maryland.  Rev. R. Thomas Fralin, Jr. will officiate. Final resting-place ceremonies will follow at Boonsboro Cemetery, Boonsboro.

Family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 3, 2013 at the funeral home.
