Peggy Cole

Mrs. Peggy Hershberger Cole, 90, life-long resident of Frederick, died suddenly Thursday, November 15, 2018 at Frederick Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of the late Howard Cole. They were married for 38 years at the time of his death in 1986.

Born February 4, 1928, she was the daughter of the late William Cunningham Hershberger and Hazel Marie (Browning) Hershberger.

While her children were young, Peggy's volunteering efforts began with the PTA at North Frederick Elementary School. From there, Peggy became active in many Frederick organizations, and continued to be active up until her untimely passing. She was a life member of the Frederick Women's Civic Club, having served as past president and chair of the Mardi Gras. She was a member of DAR and the Salvation Army Auxiliary for many years.

Her proudest civic accomplishment was that of organizer and member of the first board of directors for Daybreak Adult Day Services.

Peggy is survived by a son, Robert Cole, of Frederick; a daughter Nancy Buckles, and husband Tony, of Pensacola FL; three grandchildren, Jonathan Buckles, Elizabeth Deck, and Daniel Butler; eight great-grandchildren, Brenton, Madeline, Catherine and Elizabeth Buckles; Emilia and Enslie Deck; Briana Butler; and Mark Cooke.

Peggy was the last of her immediate family.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 23 from the funeral home chapel with Rev. Tim May officiating. The family will also receive friends from 10-11 a.m. Friday.

Interment will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Daybreak Adult Day Services, Inc., 7819 Rocky Springs Rd, Frederick, MD 21702.
