Paula Mary Kirkwood, 61, of New Market, MD passed away Wednesday, November, 13, 2013 at the Washington Hospital Center.
Born on March 22, 1952 in Deep River, Ontario Canada she was the daughter of the late Robert and Paula T. Kirkwood.
Paula was the eldest of seven girls and was always a role model for her six sisters. Paula graduated with a Bachelor's degree in 1975 from the University of Maryland and later earned her Master's degree from Maryland as well. She went on to earn a second Master's degree in the Arts with Concentration in Special Education in 1984 from Hood College . She was a teacher for 38 years for Montgomery County Schools, including 15 years in Special Education and during her career taught at Poolsville Elementary, Whetstone Elementary and Rosemont Elementary. Paula dedicated her life to children and their education. Even in retirement she devoted many hours a week teaching and tutoring her neighborhood children, Ayla, Ryland, Cade and Lauren. She spoke of these children often and they were her passion. She will forever be missed by them.
She is survived by her Sisters, Andi Bower, Janet Slicer, Moira Rivers, Roberta Gargan, Maggie Kirkwood Eslinger and Susan Kirkwood. Nephews, Robert Kirkwood, Brandon Gargan and Ryan Slicer. She is preceded in death by her parents Robert and Paula T. Kirkwood. A life beautifully lived, you will be missed dearly by all of us, we love you sweet Paula.

The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick on Saturday, November 23, 2013 from 1-4 PM.
Interment will be private.
