Paul Leroy Thompson

Paul Leroy "Pop" Thompson of Smithsburg, Maryland passed away from this life and into Jesus’ loving embrace on Monday, January 23, 2023. Paul was a loving husband for 45 years of Betty Ross Thompson.

He was the owner and cone creator of Pop's Place in Boonsboro. Paul was a bus driver for 12 years for FCPS. He loved watching old western movies and being surrounded by his family. 

In addition to his wife, Betty, he is survived by four daughters, Molly Brown and husband, Bernard, Angela Cantilena, Debbie Tompkins and Sharon Tillotson; twelve grandchildren, Eva, Addison, Isaiah, Hannah, Anthony, David, Zachary, Joe, Laura, Mary, Chelsea, and Joshua; twelve great-grandchildren; and siblings, Margaret Leishear, Ruth Beltz, Jenny Gait, Joanne Geoghan. 

Paul was preceded in death by parents, Paul and Jennie Thompson; sister, Corrie Boulay; and brother, John Thompson.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, January 29, 2023 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike in Frederick. 

The family will also receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday, January 30, 2023 at Valley Baptist Church, 5678 Holter Road in Jefferson with a celebration of Paul's life journey beginning at 11 a.m. with Pastor Larry Nelson officiating.

Burial will be held at Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery in  Middletown.
