Paul Alvin Myers, 89, of Hagerstown and recently a resident of Reeders Memorial Home in Boonsboro, passed from this life on Saturday, September 7, 2013.
Born on April 19, 1924, in Myersville, Maryland, he was the son of the late Alvey Jacob and Betty Mariah (Shank) Myers.
When he was younger, Paul worked at a saw mill in Frederick County for five years and was then a bench maker with M.P. Moller in Hagerstown. He went on to work at Bester and Long Road Construction and the Blue Ridge Bus Line, both in Hagerstown. He then was an employee with the Ford Motor Company in Hagerstown and retired in 1981 from Charleton Brothers after 21 years as a mechanic.
Paul was a member of the Teamster's Union Local 992 in Hagerstown and St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Hagerstown.
He is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth "Miriam" Kline and husband Edgar of Myersville; one brother, Olvey Lee Myers and wife Delores of Myersville; his daughter-in-law, Lee Ellen Myers of Hancock, Maryland; and four grandchildren, Edgar L. Kline, Jr., Linda Mae Kline, Christine Elizabeth Kline, and Christopher Myers. He is also survived by four great grandchildren, two great-great grandsons, and his long-time special friend Josephine Detrow.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Allen Lee Myers; and his former wife, Gladys N. Myers.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 12 noon on Friday, September 13, 2013, at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike in Boonsboro. Final resting place ceremonies will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends from 10 am until 12 noon on Friday at the funeral home.
