Paul James Green, 94, residing at Homewood, at Crumland Farms passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 23, 2016. On March 27 he would have celebrated 69 years of marriage to Helen Zimmerman Green.
Their marriage was blessed with 3 children: Paula Biser and husband Bob, Donald and his wife Susie and Paul Jr. and his wife Karen. Grandchildren are Krista Bowen and husband Christopher, Charla O'Sullivan and husband Christopher, Amy Routzahn and husband Nathan, Abby Gearhart and husband Craig, Grant Green the only grandson and Mandy Sipple and husband Dave. Mr. Green had the joy of having 8 great-grandchildren over time to sit on his lap.
He is survived by a sister, Margaret Lebherz and husband Joseph while being proceeded in death by a brother Charles V. Green. His parents were Marion and Belva Green.
Always feeling that the Lord has blessed him, he felt compelled to give much of this time and energy to his church and community. He served on many committees at Grace United Church of Christ in Frederick as well as Deacon, Elder, Sunday School teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, President of the Consistory and President of the Congregation. He is currently a member of Calvary United Methodist Church.
He was past president of the Children's Aid Society, past president of the County United Way, past president of the Walkersville PTA, past president of the Glade Valley Lions Club, while also at one time serving on the Homewood Advisory Board. In 2010 he was honored as Distinguished Alumni from Frederick High School, class of 1939. Mr. Green assumed many professional leadership roles as well. He was past president of PennAg Millers and Feed Dealers Association, past chairman of the Chamber of Commerce Agri-Business committee, past president of Maryland Feed Dealers and past chairman of the Farmers and Mechanics Bank advisory Board.
In 1948 Paul and his wife Helen purchased a struggling feed mill in Walkersville. Over the years, because of his determination and innovation, Farmers Supply Company became one of the largest independently owned feed mill in the country. While in business he earned many award and recognition from a number of national publications.
The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick on Friday, March 25, 2016 from 2-4PM. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 26 at 10 AM at Calvary United Methodist Church, 131 W. 2nd St., Frederick, MD 21701. Rev. Harry C. Cole will officiate.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Calvary United Methodist Church at the said above address or Homewood at Crumland Farms, 7407 Willow Rd., Frederick, MD 21702.
Interment will be private.
