Paul Gaver

Paul Eugene Gaver, age 95, of Frederick passed away Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at Homewood Crumland Farms.  Born October 13, 1924 at home on the farm in Creagerstown, Maryland.  He was the youngest child of the late Franklin Elias and Maude Blickenstaff Gaver.  He was preceded in death by brothers, Franklin, Harold, Joseph and Morris Gaver and sisters, Gladys Masser, Hilda Dixon and Catherine Cohen.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Charlotte Shankle Gaver; his daughter, Marilyn Gaver Shaff and huband, Bill; grandson, William Paul Shaff and great granddaughter, Lily Elizabeth Shaff, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Paul grew up on his family's farm and proclaimed what a wonderful life it was for a boy.  He was a graduate of Walkersville High School.  However, Paul's path in life would take him away from the farm.  It led him to Baltimore and a job as a auctioneer for a large auction house as well as countless private auctions.  He spent some time as a radio announcer.  He owned Gaver's Furniture Store for a period of time in the 1950's and started to sell insurance.  Later he added real estate and the Paul E. Gaver Agency was born.  His agency is still thriving today under the Sally Arnold Agency banner.

Paul was a devoted family man and loved being a granddad.  He eagerly anticipated each visit from Billy and Lily.  Paul was a positive, forward thinking, kind man that avidly followed politics and government his entire life.  He loved books and clocks, boxing and children and his winters in Florida.  But he especially loved dogs.

Paul was a member of the Frederick Church of the Brethren.  A Celebration of his life with reception to follow will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 30, 2019 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, Maryland 21702. The Rev. Tim Shatzer will officiate.
