Paul Hampton Burroughs, “Yogi,” of Rockville, MD, passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2019 at the age of 86 at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda. Yogi was born on September 6, 1932 in Washington, DC to Walter Samuel Burroughs and Eleanor Farr Brady Burroughs. He married Helene Leann Buser on July 2, 1951 in Cape May, NJ. He was predeceased by his wife, parents, and infant son, Glenn Paul.
Yogi graduated in 1951 from Calvin Coolidge High School in Washington, DC, where he excelled in baseball and was given the nickname "Yogi." He once tried out for the Philadelphia Athletics and served in the US Army during the Korean War. He was employed as a Systems Analyst at the University of Maryland for over 25 years. Yogi enjoyed golfing, bowling, and playing cards with his family and friends. He was also an avid wagering enthusiast.
He is survived by his two brothers, Walter (Doris) Burroughs and Bernard Burroughs, his children: Karen (Tom) Damiano, Steven (Beth) Burroughs, Nancy Collins, Linda Burroughs, Wayne (Robin) Burroughs, David Burroughs, and Susan (David) Besok. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Brian Damiano, Kevin (Nina) Damiano, Stefanie (Ryan) Gannon, Stacie (Kyle) Long, Beau Burroughs, Jaclyn (Mike) Shavel, Kristina Burroughs, Craig Burroughs, and Hayden Besok as well as great-grandchildren: Amelia and Gavin Damiano; Gracie, Benton, and Colin Gannon; Jack and Adeline Shavel; Mya and Leah Austin; and many nieces and nephews.
Yogi was a husband, father, and friend who will be missed by all who knew him.
Family will receive friends on Saturday, May 11, 2019 from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. at Stauffer Funeral Homes, 1621 Opossumtown Pike in Frederick, MD.
