Patricia Lee Butcher Zimmerman, 76 years old, of New Market, MD, passed away Wednesday June 4th, at Kline Hospice House in Mount Airy, MD, after a courageous battle with leukemia. Pat was born July 28, 1937, to the late Charles and Grace Butcher of Frederick, MD. She graduated from Frederick High School in 1955 and attended Averett College, in Danville, VA. Pat married her high school sweetheart Paul A. Zimmerman Jr. on February 13, 1960 and several years later, moved to New Market, MD where she resided until her death. During her professional career she worked for Frederick Trading Company, Frederick County Welfare Board, and State Farm Insurance. For many years, she was an active volunteer in the Frederick Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and the New Market Garden Club. All of her life Pat had a great love of books and was a member of the West Winds Book Club. She also thoroughly enjoyed playing cards with her friends and her swimming aerobics group at the YMCA. Pat is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Paul, sons Andrew Zimmerman and partner Elaine Llewellyn of Frederick, MD, and Thomas Zimmerman and wife Diane, of Frederick, MD; sister Miriam Troglin of Frederick, MD; sister-in-law Dorothy and Winslow Burhans Jr. of New Market, MD; grandchildren, Kevin, Christine, and Nick Lowery of Frederick, MD. Also surviving are nieces and nephew, Kelly Steele of Leesburg, VA, Kristin Pettit of Frederick, MD, and Winslow Burhans III of New Market, MD, as well as great nieces and nephew: Allison Steele, Hannah Burhans, and Kai Burhans. She will be sorely missed by the Steel Magnolias, her family, and longtime friends. Family will receive friends on Sunday, June 8, 2014 from 7-9PM at Stauffer Funeral Homes, P.A., 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD 21702. A Memorial Service to celebrate her life will be on Monday, June 9, 2014 at the New Market United Methodist Church, 5501 Old New Market Rd, New Market, MD, 21774 at 11:00 AM. Pastor Jenny Smith will officiate. Inurnment will be held at a later date.
