Burkittsville

Patricia May Foltz Pry, 88, of Burkittsville passed away on Thursday, December 14th, 2023, at home on her family farm, surrounded by her loving family. Born on April 13, 1935, in Cumbo WV, Patty was the daughter of the late Perry Eugene and Ida Lee Foltz and was the oldest of seven children.

Patty was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Burkittsville, MD. While attending church, at just 15 years old she met the love of her life, Richard Lee Pry.  They were married for 68 years and together built a family legacy surrounded by faith in God, love of family and friends, the importance of community and hardwork. Patty could be seen wearing her signature bandana almost everywhere she went. She had a heart of gold and never met a stranger. All were welcome in her home and greeted with one of her warm hugs.  There was always room for one more at her table. Patty was an amazing cook and was best known for her homemade rolls, apple dumplings and fudge.  She loved all of God’s creatures great and small but had a special love of babies. Patty worked tirelessly on her farm, tending to the farm animals and her flower and vegetable gardens. Nothing gave her greater joy than harvesting her garden bounty and sharing it with countless family and friends. Patty truly believed that all gifts were from God and were meant to be shared with others.

Patty graduated from Brunswick High School in 1953 and worked at Grangers Mutual Insurance Company for several years before devoting her time to raising her family. Patty is survived by her best friend and husband, Richard, son Tim Pry and wife Gail, daughters, Vicki Gordon, and Kelli Wilson and husband, Raymond, all of Burkittsville.  She was predeceased by her son, Richard “Scott” Pry. She had four grandchildren, Keith Pry and wife Julie, Mark Pry, and Allie and Jack Wilson (fiancée, Katrina Eisentraut) and six great- grandchildren, Faith, Scott, Max, Ethan, Grace and Hope Pry. She is survived by her loving sisters Shirley Ridgeway and husband Lee, Donna Wenner and husband Tommy, Rose Barger, Delores Axline and husband Johnny and sisters-in-law, Carole Foltz and Geraldlene Sigler. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Patty had a special bond with Chance Smith and David Wolfe and was considered their second Mother and was a bonus Grandmother to both the Strickland and Bailey families. She was predeceased by brothers Gene and Merrell Foltz, brothers-in-law Buz Barger and David Pry, sister-in-law Lynn Pry and granddaughter-in-law, Cesse Ip.

In addition to raising her family, Patty took great pride in working their family farm, Needwood Farms.  She drove a school bus for Frederick County Public Schools for many years enhancing the lives of countless students. Patty’s love was endless for God, her family, friends, neighbors, church family, her beloved “Granger Girls”, Martha Zecher, Lorene Huffer and Gladys Smith and her lifelong friends, Mary Crampton and Martha Palmer.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 19th from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1100 North Maple Avenue, Brunswick, MD. A celebration of Patty’s life will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church on Wednesday, December 20th at 10 am.  The church is located at 5 East Main Street; Burkittsville, MD.  At Patty’s request, the attire is casual.  Feel free to wear your blue jeans, brightest colors and bring a bandana.
