Oscar T. Smith, 81, of Frederick, died on December 29, 2024, at the Frederick Health Hospital following a ten-month battle with lymphoma. Oscar is preceded in death by his loving wife, Barbara Ann Smith, in 2008, and his son, Glenn T. Smith, in 1983.
Oscar was born on January 19,1943 in his childhood home of Mountaindale. He was the third son born to Jesse Leroy Smith, Sr. and Mary (Rice) Smith.
Oscar attended Frederick High School, but he dropped out his junior year, to help support his family by working on a farm and then joined the Army for three and a half years during the Cuban Missile Crisis. (At age 55 he went back to school and received his GED). He worked twenty-seven years for Eisinger, Kilbane & Associates as Chief Building Engineer in Rockville, MD, then he worked thirteen years for Johnson Controls in Columbia, MD. He retired early to care for his ailing wife.
He was an outdoors man who loved camping, fishing, and hunting. He was a lifetime member of the Cold Deer Hunting and Fishing Club where he served on different committees for the good of the club. He was a member of Frederick Alliance Church and served for many years as a church trustee. He had a contagious smile and willingness to help anyone in need.
Oscar was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and a friend who always put others first. He is survived by his children, Gregory T. Smith (Julie), Laurie D. Smith, and Charles T. Smith (Rachel); a sister, Linda Sweeney Lochner (Mel), sister-in-laws, Beverly Phebus and Myra Cahill; five grandchildren, Ryan (Jodie), Garrett (Amanda), Dylan, Ryley, & Ava; two great grandchildren, Arabella and Theodore; two Aunts, Betty Shuff and Hilda Schildt; with cousins and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Frederick Alliance Church, 1631 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD 21702, on January 10, 2025, from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. Pastor Rick Shell will hold the funeral service, 12 p.m. - 1p.m. Final resting-place ceremonies will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Frederick.
