Mr. Orville Smith, Sr., 96, of Thurmont, Maryland, passed away Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at Northampton Manor. He was the husband of the late Daisy Rice Smith.
Born November 5, 1917 in Woodsboro, MD., he was the son of James and Celesta Victoria Baugher Smith.
Mr. Smith served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a Medic in the Normandy Invasion. He retired from Potomac Edison and later started Smitty’s Fixit Shop. He loved trout fishing and working in his shop. Orville was a member, and deacon, at Rocky Ridge Church of the Brethren.
He is survived by his son Orville Smith, Jr and wife Shelley of Gettysburg and daughter April Marie Powell Smith of Thurmont, grandchildren Susan Powell, Rachelle and Skylar Harris, great grandchildren Courtney, Dakota and Victoria Powell. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his brothers Leroy, Woodrow and Lawrence Smith.
The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 E. Main Street, Thurmont, Thursday November 7, from 7-9:00 pm, where services will be held Friday, November 8, at 1:00 pm with Rev. David Collins officiating.
Interment Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
