Ora "Lucky" Slark, Jr.

Ora "Lucky" Slark Jr., 92, of Walkersville, passed away Peacefully on Friday, May 5, 2017 at Glade Valley Nursing & Rehab in Walkersville.

Lucky was the son of the  Late Ora Slark Sr. and Viola  (Blanton) Slark and was born on December 19, 1924, in Lucasville, OH, where he attended local schools.

Entering the service of the Navy, Lucky Served as a Signalman on the USS Westerly, PC 1198, during World War II. He served in European, Atlantic and Pacific Theatres and trained as an aviation machinist mate.

After the Navy, Lucky worked as a Carpenter and Construction Laborer and foreman. He also worked for Laborers International Union, working as a mediator to work through disputes and teaching Construction Safety and Health Education. He was very proud of the work he did as a Metro Safety Superintendent for facilities such as the underground subway tunnel constructed under the Potomac River. Lucky retired as a Business manager for Laborers District Council of Washington, DC.

Lucky participated in political campaigns for congressman and senators. He loved hunting and fishing, anything to do with the outdoors, gardening, maintaining groves of trees, country western music, dancing, traveling with his family, reading everything from psychology to military history to outdoor publications, and using his carpentry skills to build additions and other home improvements.He loved new technologies and kept abreast of computer progress.

A Proud Veteran, He was an active member of American Legion Post 282 in Woodsboro, Maryland and  participated in local military tributes and parades throughout his lifetime

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Slark in 2016 and his siblings, Marie Buffington, "Cotton" (Ralph) Slark, and Eugene Slark.

He is survived by his six children Christine Choloski, Laura Klocko, Linda Bueso, Anthony Klocko, Mark Hevener and Kelly Hevener; grandchildren, Danny and Melanie Snap, Veronica Henry, Tony Bueso, Ashleigh Klocko, Anthony Klocko II , Damon Oberdorf, Lisa and Mark Hevener and Nick and Mallory Hevener. He is also survived by his sister, Ruth Rigsby, and numerous nieces and nephews, and great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 40 Fulton Ave., Walkersville on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 from 1-3 and 6-8pm. Funeral services will be at the funeral home on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at 10:00am. Interment will be in Andrew Chapel Cemetery, Vienna, Virginia.at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, May 10, 2017. Navy Burial Honors will be held at graveside.

An American Legion Post# 282 Honor Service will be held Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at 7:00 pm during the evening visitation time at the Funeral Home.
