Olivia "Jean" Hardy

Olivia Jean Hardy, age 87, of Hagerstown, passed away Tuesday, December 14, 2021 in her home from natural causes.

Olivia Jean was born in Woodbine, Maryland. She was raised on farms and enjoyed the rural lifestyle in Christiansburg, Virginia and later Hagerstown, Maryland. She was a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend who lived a life of service to others. She was a faithful member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church, the Lioness Club of Long Meadow and volunteered for the Salvation Army and Washington County schools. Family gatherings were extremely important to her, and she was a devoted grandmother to her many grandchildren. She had a quick wit and a great sense of humor. This, along with her thoughtfulness, kindness, and attentiveness to others are some of the many qualities that will be fondly remembered by those who knew her.

Olivia Jean was married to her husband, the late Thomas Reed Hardy, for 62 years.

Olivia Jean is survived by her sister, Dot Holt; brother, David Patrick (Ann): her twin, sister Janet Dodson; her four children, Thomas Hardy (Terry), David Hardy (Mary), Donald Hardy (Pam), Patricia Hardy; her thirteen grandchildren, Justin, Cori Anne, Ethan, Alex, Makenna, Kara, Evan, Mitchell, Maclane, Morgan, Juliann, Allyson, Danielle; and her five great-grandchildren, McCoy, Maverick, Caleb, Ella, and Liam.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Beldon David Patrick Jr. and Olivia Poole Patrick; her brother, James Patrick; and her step-mother, Mary Patrick.

The family will receive friends from 9 to 10 a.m. on Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike in Frederick.

A celebration of Olivia Jean's life journey will take place at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home with Rev. Randall Reid officiating. Burial will be held at Poplar Springs United Methodist Church Cemetery in Mt. Airy.
