Oliver Lynch, Jr.
69, of Mount Airy, Maryland, passed away on Wednesday June 16, 2010, at home.
Born January 23, 1941, in Norfolk, Va., he was the son of Captain O.D.T. Lynch and Louise (Barry) Lynch of Coronado, CA.
Ollie attended San Diego State University obtaining a Masters Degree in Physics.
On June 18, 1966 he joined the AEC in Las Vegas, Nevada working in the Nuclear Weapons Testing Program.
For 30 years he was a Government Employee working for the AEC, NRC, DOE and ERDA with increasing levels of responsibility. He retired in 1996 as a member of the Senior Executive Service.
He was a member of the Isaac Walton League of America, Mount Airy Chapter, and he was an avid target shooter. Ollie was a very active and devoted member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary. He loved teaching the Basic Seamanship Boating Courses and enjoyed being on patrol on the Chesapeake Bay.
He is survived by his wife Lyn of Mt. Airy, two sons, Robert Lynch and wife Joanna of Lovettsville, Virginia; David Lynch and wife Jessica of Martinsburg, West Virginia; three grandchildren; Ariana, age 7, Megan, age 4, Ryan, age 2; his cousin Fred Berry and wife Sandy of Oak Ridge, Tennessee; his brother-in-law Pat Lloyd, nephews Scott, Sean and niece, Sharon Lloyd of Centerport, New York and San Diego, CA.
He was preceded in death by his father, Oliver and his mother, Louise; father-in-law Pat Lloyd and sister-in-law, Becky Lloyd.
The family will receive friends from 7-9- PM on Friday, June 25, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd. In Mt. Airy. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 26, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church Poplar Springs, 1125 St. Michael’s Rd., Mt. Airy with Rev Michael J. Ruane as Celebrant. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
