Oliver Franklin Hoffman

Oliver Franklin “Jake” Hoffman, 92, of New Midway, Thurmont and Frederick, passed away on Sunday, November 24, 2024.

He was the husband of the late Shirley V. Hoffman (Sprague) for 42 years at the time of her passing. 

Born on January 12, 1932 in New Market, MD, he was the son of the late Oliver Monroe Hoffman and Anna Dora Hoffman (Leakins). 

He served our country from 1954-1957 in the U.S. Air Force and was a lifetime member of the Amvets Post #7 and the American Legion in Thurmont.

Jake loved gardening, fruit trees and tending his roses. He also enjoyed woodworking, making many pieces of furniture and small decorative items. 

He retired from State Farm Insurance Company in Frederick in 1994 after many years of service. Unbeknownst to the main office, he really was the OG “Jake from State Farm!”

He is survived by his children, Gay Fout, and Myron Hoffman and wife, Brenda; grandchildren, Eric Fout and wife, Alma, Nicholas Fout and wife, Maggie, and Jonathan Hoffman and wife, Kaitlyn; great-grandchildren, Ava Fout, Calvin Fout, McKinsey Hoffman and Nolan Hoffman. He will also be missed by his dear friend, Catherine Ohler, a loving companion of many years. 

He was the last of his immediate family, predeceased by his sisters, Kathleen Rew, Betty Fleming, Ethel Daugherty and Sally Grimes; and his loving son-in-law, Robert Fout. 

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 30, 2024 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike in Frederick. 

A celebration of Jake's life journey will take place at 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at Stauffer Funeral Home in Frederick with Rev. Daniel Ricketts officiating. Burial will be held at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Frederick.
