Norman "Sonny" Ahalt, Sr.
July 30, 1933 — November 26, 2016
Mr. Norman Lee Ahalt, Sr.(Sonny), 83, of Frederick, passed away on November 26th at his home surrounded by family.
Born on July 30th 1933 in Burkitsville, MD to Harry R. Ahalt and Maude Harriet Stup Ahalt. Sonny was the beloved husband to Dorothy F. Ahalt for 63 wonderful years.
Sonny will be lovingly remembered by his children, Ronald Kent Ahalt (Sue), Sandra Titus (Jeff Booth), Judy Cody (Ken), and nieces, Barbara Parsley, and Linda Dykstra. In addition to his children he loved spending time with his grandchildren, Kim Baker, Lori Fields, Kyle Ahalt, Katrina Toombs, Amy Hurst, David Ahalt, Lindsay Champion, Kristi Hawkins, Bobby Titus, Erica Carter, Dustin Cody, and Samantha Cody, twenty four great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was born into a large family and is survived by his sister Virginia Sullivan, sister-in-law Jane Ahalt, and brother in-law Clifford Hill.
Mr. Ahalt was proceeded in death by his son, Norman Ahalt Jr. (Buck), and siblings; Raymond Ahalt, Catherine Sharrer, Harry Ahalt, Pearl Pennington, Alberta Hill, Ruby Blevins and George Ahalt.
Sonny will be missed by many close friends including; Kelly and Pat Williams, and Joe and Loretta Hubble.
He started his long working career dairy farming alongside his father in Boyds, MD. Soon after leaving the farm he began driving and hauling for R.P. Brown in Barnesville, Maryland for nearly 30 years. Following his services with R.P. Brown, he drove a fuel truck for Frederick Petroleum then finally retired from Griffith Consumers. After retirement, Dottie and Sonny, spent their time traveling through the United States only missing Hawaii, North Dakota and Alaska.
Sonny will be remembered for his contagious smile, witty humor and welcoming arms.
The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick on Monday, November, 28, 2016 from 2-4PM and 6-8PM where a funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at 10AM.
Interment will follow at Manor Reformed Cemetery.
