Mr. Norman L. "Norm" Ficken, Jr., 89, of Frederick died Thursday, May 1, 2014 at Homewood at Crumland Farms. Born July 28, 1924 in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Dagmar and Norman Ficken, Sr. A former resident of Rockville, Norm moved to the Frederick area 20 years ago. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, playing chess, volunteering with the Smithsonian, and attending the symphony. Norm was a WWII Veteran having served with the United States Army. He is survived by four children, Richard N. Ficken and wife, Nancy, of Tulsa, OK; Susan Ficken Reiss and husband, Fred, of Middletown, VA; Patricia Ficken Moore and husband, Gregg, of Mt. Airy; and Paul Ficken and wife, Cathy, of Greencastle, PA; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one nephew, Edward Soga of Virginia. Norm was predeceased by his sister, Delores Ficken Soga. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 4, 2014 at Stauffer Funeral Homes, P.A., 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick.
