Norman Lee Hancock

Mr. Norman Lee Hancock, 63, of Mount Airy, died on Sunday, June 3, 2007 at the University of Maryland Medical Center. He is survived by his wife of 37 years Marilyn F.(Shugars )Hancock. His life was filled with the love and care of his family as well as a wide circle of friends, including his co-workers, past and present.

Born on December 28, 1943 in Washington, DC he was a son of the late Milton August and Jeane
(Baeschlin ) Hancock.

Mr. Hancock was a member of St. James Episcopal Church, Mt. Airy. He was a letter carrier with the U.S. Postal Service retiring after 30 years, was union president for the NALC Branch 4266. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in Vietnam as a Helicopter Gunner Pilot, and received the Air Medal with 2 Oak Clusters. He was past president of the Mt. Airy Lions Club, 3rd vice president of the Four County Lions. In his younger years he was Cub Master of Pac #460, was a Baseball coach for MAYAA. Mr. Hancock's most recent employment was with Wachovia's Documents and Custody, Frederick. Norman was a sports enthusiasts enjoying golf and especially his Washington Redskins.

Surviving beside his wife are two sons, Kenneth Lee Hancock of Mt. Airy, and Terence Michael Hancock and wife Rhonda Kaye of New Market; siblings, Margaret Barger and husband Joel of NC, William Hancock of CA, Milton Buck Hancock and wife Judy of GA, Mary Kiele and husband Darold of ID, Helen Arnold of SC, Cheryl Sherry McDonald of WA; in-laws, Arthur J. and Mary Ann Shugars of Bethesda; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He will also be missed by his dog, Quincy.

Visitation: The family will receive friends at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd., Mt. Airy on Thursday, June 7th, from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Services: Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, June 8, at St. James Episcopal Church, 202 N. Main St., Mt. Airy, with Rev. Dr. Ann Boyd
officiating. Interment in Pine Grove Cemetery, Mt. Airy.
