Norman Stitely

Mr. Norman I. “Bub” Stitely, 87 of Thurmont, MD, passed away Friday, June 3, 2011 at the Kline Hospice House.  He was the husband of Agnes Eyler Stitely.

Born February 17, 1924 in Thurmont, MD., he was the son of the late Clyde Stitely and Harriett Ruth Spalding Stitely.

Mr. Stitely served his country during WWII in the U. S. Army.  He retired, after 25+ years of service, as a contracting officer at Ft. Detrick.  Bub was a member of the American Legion Post #168, the AMVETS  Post #7, a lifetime member of Blue Ridge Sportsman Club, a member of Guardian Hose Fire Department and the Eagles Club, Waynesboro, PA.  He was an avid Boston Red Sox Fan.  Mr. Stitely was a member of the Weller United Methodist Church.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his children Michael D. Stitely and wife Ila of Frederick, Patricia K. Coover, Eugene G. Stitely and wife Peggy all of Thurmont and Gerald W. Stitely of Millersville, grandchildren Heather Howes, Amy Stitely, Chaz Stitely, Mark Coover, Jennifer Harting, Sarah Stitely, Christopher Stitely, Scot Stitely and David Stitely, great grandchildren Jordan Howes, Marli Thompson and Ryan Harting, brothers and sisters Robert Stitely, Catherine Atkins, Beatrice Bentz, Lois  Riffle, and Ruth Ann Miller, step-children Shelby, Kay and Buddy and their families.  Many nieces and nephews also survive.  He was preceded in death by his first wife Marjorie Dewees Stitely, a grandson Brent Stitely, brothers James and William Stitely and a sister Louise Fraley.

The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home,  104 E. Main Street, Thurmont, MD., Sunday, June 5, from 3 – 5 p.m.  Services will be held Monday, June 6, at 11:00 a.m. from Weller United Methodist Church, 101 N. Altamont Avenue, Thurmont.  Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to service.

Interment Blue Ridge Cemetery.
