Norman Himes (Joe)

Norman Joseph Himes (Joe) died unexpectedly in his home on Monday, January 21, 2019.

Born March 25, 1931 in Lander, MD, he was the son of the late Norman and Hazel Himes.

Joe graduated from Frederick High School in 1948 where he played football and baseball. He went to work for ACME Market which was his lifelong career. He joined the United States Marine Corp in 1952 as a selective service volunteer draft where he served until 1960.

He was a lifelong member of the Jefferson United Church of Christ but most recently attended Christ Reformed United Church of Christ in Middletown. Joe was an avid hunter and fan of the Washington Redskins and Nationals teams. He also loved gospel and bluegrass music.

Joe is predeceased in death by his beloved wife of 65 years, Marcella Gladstone Himes; his brother, Cecil Talbot "Dutch" Himes; and sister ,Shirley Griest. Surviving are his adoring children, Cheryl and Stanley Hawes, Wendy and Mike Campbell, and Karen Ramirez and Keith Stonesifer; his sister, Nona and husband Norman Myers; sisters-in-law, Kate Gladstone King and Phares Himes Sechler; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces who thought the world of their Gramps/Uncle Joe.

A service of remembrance will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 25, 2019 at Christ Reformed United Church of Christ in Middletown. Family and friends will be received at the church at 10:00 a.m. In Joe's honor, feel free to come dressed in his favorite team gear or "bluegrass wear."
