Noel Jack Durham, 76, passed peacefully at his home in Ijamsville on the 7th of January, 2015.

He leaves behind his wife and partner of 46 years, Stella; sons Martin Dwayne and  Malcolm “Mike”; daughter Beverly; grandchildren Nicole, Kasey, Savanna, Kimberly, Alexis and Justin Durham; and Amanda and Jeremiah Moore.  He will also be missed by brother Frank (Theresa); sister Lou Ann Ramsey (Billy Joe); sisters-in- law Donna Justice (Dennis) and Linda Riling; three nieces and six nephews, his sidekicks JoJo Boxer, Shug and Harley (Fred Yamasaki), who all loved spending couch time with him, are grieving our loss.

He was known for his infectious laughter, gregarious personality, sense of humor and wit and fondness for nicknames. He will be remembered for his generosity and forgiving nature.

Jack was an Army veteran (1956 - 1962), stationed in Germany for 26 months. He was a die-hard Redskins fan since the sixties. Jack enjoyed growing and sharing his vegetable garden and watching the wildlife around his home.

A rodbuster by trade, he has been an Open-Shop reinforcing concrete contractor since 1972. Contracts with Miller & Long and Clark allowed him to be involved in prominent projects on the Eastern Shores of MD and VA as well as the MD, VA and DC Metro area. He maintained a loyalty to his Contractors.

He truly loved his job and some of the challenges it presented. Jack took advantage of and appreciated every opportunity his was given. He felt his best accomplishment was the opportunity to provide employment and training to so many. He touched many lives on and off the work-site. Jack was devoted to his employees and truly believed everyone needed just that first, second or third chance.

Although predeceased, Jack was forever appreciative to his mentor Mike Byorick, as well as Jack Miller, Jimmy Long and Frank Manning for the opportunity they gave him.

He was predeceased by parents Herbert and Mary Louise; sister, Mary Etta Burgess; nephew Billy Wayne Ramsey and brother-in-law, Sonny Graves.

The family will receive friends at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD on Friday, January 16th from 7:00-9:00pm and on Saturday, January 17th from 2-4 and 7-9PM.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 19, 2015, at Walker’s Funeral Home, 120 West Franklin Street, Chapel Hill, NC 27516 with internment to follow in Westwood Cemetery, Carrboro, NC.

Contributions to The Salvation Army or your neighborhood Food Bank in lieu of flowers are encouraged.
