Nick J. Salamone, Jr. 92, of Keedysville, Maryland, passed peacefully from this life early Thursday morning, December 8, 2011.
Born on September 13, 1919, in Marlowe, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Nick and Congetta A. (Fontaine) Salamone. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth (Sug) Salamone in 1974.
Nick was a 1939 graduate of Martinsburg High School in Martinsburg, West Virginia.
He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII.
In Nick's early working career, he worked for Fairchild Aircraft in Hagerstown, Maryland. Afterward, he worked for Mack Truck in Hagerstown, retiring in 1982.
He was a member of Mason Lodge #191 in Brunswick, Maryland and the Western Maryland Sportsman Club in Williamsport, Maryland.
He attended the Hagerstown First Church of God on Rosehill Avenue.
Nick is survived by three children, Sonja and her husband Donald Lemaster of Martinsburg, Sherry and her husband Leroy of Keedysville, and Gregory Salamone and his wife, Sharon of Sharpsburg, Maryland; four nieces, Carolyn Caldwell, Mildred Sulser, Sharon Knapp, and Teresa Orrison; three grandchildren, Gregory Salamone, Jr. and his fiancee Heather of Martinsburg, Courtney Martz of Orlando, Florida, and Scott Salamone and his wife, Kelly, who is presently serving his country with the U.S. Air Force, stationed in Jacksonville, Florida. In addition, Nick is also survived by one great-granddaughter, Alexis Salamone of Martinsburg; three step-grandchildren, Tony and his wife, Beth, Andy, Kristen and her husband, Robert; three step great-grandchildren, Olivia, Aden, and Nathan; and special friends, Thelma and Lynn Strite.
In addition to his parents and wife, Nick was also preceded in death by five sisters, Josephine, Margarite, Catherine, Mildred, and Rose.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 12, 2011 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, Maryland. The Rev. David Sword will officiate. Final resting-place ceremonies will follow at Samples Manor Cemetery near Sharpsburg.
Family will receive friends from 6 - 8 p.m. on Sunday, December 11, 2011 at the funeral home.
