Frederick

Nicholas Gregory Falcone, Sr., 85, of Frederick, MD passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 27, 2024.

Born on February 16, 1939, in Ardmore, PA, he was the son of the late Nicholas Falcone and Julia Esther DiGiorgio Falcone.

Nick is survived by his children, David Falcone, Matthew Falcone, Robin Wachter Barry (Tom), Craig Wachter, Kristin Wachter Hickey (Bobby), and Jeff Wachter (Faith); nephews Ernie Falcone (Karen) and Claude Falcone (Nancy), and niece Julia Falcone; Christine Englund (former wife of 20 years and mother to Nicholas Jr., David, and Matthew), and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brothers Ernani Falcone (Patricia, Rachel) and Claude Falcone, his wife Norma Wachter Falcone, his sons Nicholas Falcone Jr. (Adele) and Timothy Wachter, and his cousin Diana DiPhillips Ryan.

Nick graduated with a master’s degree in business administration from Drexel University. He was an All-American lacrosse player (nicknamed “The Hawk” by his teammates) and was elected into Drexel University’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 2007. He was instrumental in the development of men’s lacrosse in southeastern PA; in particular, Summer League lacrosse and officiating. His professional career included several decades as an institutional advancement and development consultant for universities, medical centers, and other nonprofits; and a stint as the executive director of the Fort Detrick Alliance. He served as president of the Catoctin Club, the Italian Club of Frederick, the Worman’s Mill homeowners’ association, a trustee of the Worman’s Mill Community Conservancy, and in many other volunteer roles throughout his life.

Nick was devoted to his family throughout his life as a husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and Poppi to many. He enjoyed hosting guests for a variety of celebrations, events, holidays, and other gatherings.

He was a devoted dog lover and was able to give a great home to his fur babies over the years. He was an avid Philadelphia Eagles fan, a long-time season ticket holder, and loved attending games with his sons and friends. He enjoyed playing fantasy football with family & friends. He loved going to beaches in New Jersey, Delaware, and Maryland. He loved listening to music of all genres. He was a consummate foodie and enjoyed a nice glass of red wine while making his authentic Italian gravy.

For 43 years, he shared a full life of adventures with his wife, Norma. Through thick and thin, in sickness and in health, they supported each other through the journey of life. They were each other’s biggest fans.

The family would like to thank the staff of Edenton Retirement Community for lovingly caring for Nick in his last years; especially RaeAnn, Sandy, Joyce, Tina, Tawana, Maureen, Corleda, and Lisa.

The family will receive friends from 10 AM to 11 AM, with a celebration of Nick's life at 11 AM on Thursday, August 15, 2024, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike in Frederick.

Private burial will be held at St. Denis Church cemetery in Ardmore, PA.
