Mr. Nicholas Gus Constantine, 93, of Frederick, Maryland, passed away Monday, April 16, 2012 at the Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of the late Frances Bianco Constantine and was the former husband of the late Iris Drake McCotter.
Born February 16, 1919 in Colorado, he was the son of the late Gus Nicholas and Vasiliki Bouzanis Constantine.
After graduating High School he served in the U.S.Army as an administrative assistant. Nick loved swing music, was quite a dancer and played the saxophone in a band with his army buddies.
"Mr. Nick" was employed at several firms in the Washington, D. C. area, as a chef and manager, including Leoni's in College Park and Blackie's House of Beef.
He enjoyed mentoring employees and teaching the trade. Nick had passion and a flair for creating delicious food with a beautiful presentation. In his retirement years he perfected the art of ceramics and also worked at Arby's. He embraced gardening, was a master of barbeque, enjoyed reading newspapers, crossword puzzles, watching the "Redskins" along with many other sports, fishing and playing cards and dominoes.
He is survived by two children Connie Blekicki and husband Tom of Richmond, VA and Felicia Constantine of New Market, two grandchildren Heather Keller of Midlothian, VA and John Blekicki and wife Lauren of Denver, CO, and four great grandchildren Hannah and Lily Keller and Georgia and Henry Blekicki. Several nieces, nephews, cousins and brothers and sisters-in-laws also survive. He was preceded in death by a sister Georgia Mahares and a brother George Constantine.
The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick on Sunday, April 22, from 2-4 and 6-8 pm, where services will be held Monday, April 23, at 12:00 Noon with Dr. Thomas Huff officiating.
Interment at Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
