Nathan Lorraine Hoy, Jr., of Alexandria, VA, formerly of Frederick, MD died suddenly Monday, June 1, 2015. Born April 5, 1942 on Easter Sunday, Nathan was affectionately given the nickname of Bunny, by his parents the late Nathan Lorraine Hoy, Sr., and Martha Eliza Spriggs Hoy. Nathan was also known as Detroit.
Nathan grew up in the Frederick County area and attended the Frederick County School System. He worked in Fairfax County Government as a Heavy Equipment Engineer and Shopper Food Warehouse as a Stock Clerk for over 20 years. He also had a small Landscaping business which he enjoyed as a pastime.
Nathan leaves to mourn three daughters, Linda Hoy of Leesburg, Va., Kizzy Hoy of Rockville, and Debbie Baranya of Leesburg; one son, Anthony Brown of Leesburg; one granddaughter, Nazira; four grandsons, Devin, Micky, Rakeem Anthony, and Keenan; and one great-granddaughter, Amelia.
Also surviving are three brothers, Ernest Spriggs Sr. (Troy) of Frederick, Kevin Spriggs (Rhona) of Gaithersburg, and Larry Hoy (Kelly) of Ohio; four sisters, Velma Lawson (Royal) of Adamstown, Karen Willis of Monrovia, Cheryl Spriggs of Hyattsville, and Nancy Key of New York; his lifelong partner Helene (Mona) Johnson; step-brothers and step-sisters, Gary, Mary, Sherry and Terry; sister-in-law, Bonnie Moore; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and countless friends and family.
He will be remembered by his former wife, Catherine Brown; and his best friend, Jackie Roberts.
Nathan was preceded in death by one son, Kevin Brown; three sisters, Betty, Elaine and Susie; one brother, John; and his step-mother, Frances Hoy.
Funeral services for Nathan will begin at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at Ebenezer United Methodist, Church, 4010 Ijamsville Rd. in Ijamsville, where the family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until service time. Officiating will be Pastor Joyce Hall. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
