Nancy de la Concepcion Sotolongo Leon, 66, of Frederick, Maryland, passed from this life on Monday, January 21, 2019 at her home.
She was born on December 8, 1952 in Havana, Cuba. She was the beloved daughter of Eumelia Leon Sotolongo, and Francisco Moreno, special mention to Agapito Sotolongo. While in Cuba she fought incessantly for basic human rights, freedom of expression and for the release of political prisoners, she had a great sense of justice. Nancy, was an independent journalist while in Cuba defying the lack of freedom of speech in Cuba, and in Frederick a passionate family of the Toys R US company. She was a warrior, a fighter and admired by many for her strength and happiness. She was at her best among people she cared about, family and friends, and had a unique and contagious sense of humor. She loved to cook and share it with people she loved so much.
She is survived by sons, Said Castro, Ehydel Castro and Joandrys Leal; grandchildren, Athan and Gabriel Leal; brothers, Frank Moreno and Rick Moreno and sister, Mayra Rivera. She is also survived by special family members and friends, Isabel Cristina Chevarria, Consuelo Avitia, Ramon Balderas, Tersilia Garcia, Dilcia Garcia and Humberto Bayon.
We will always carry your memory in our hearts. In her final weeks she always said, "Be happy in this life, do what makes you happy."
A special thanks to Medstar Washington Hospital Center for taking care of her during the last year of her well lived life.
