Nancy Webber

July 30, 1935 — February 24, 2018

Nancy Lou Brautigam Webber, 82, of Frederick, Maryland, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 24, 2018 surrounded by her loving family.

Born on July 30, 1935, in Takoma, WA, she was the daughter of the late John Harold and Pearl Louise (Matz) Brautigam.

In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by her sister-in-law, Dorothy Brautigam; nephew, Hans Cozak; great- great nephew, James A. Baird III; aunts; uncles and cousins.

Nancy was a graduate of Jackson High School, Jackson, Michigan, class of 1953.  She was a homemaker but returned to college when her children were teenagers graduating from Hood college in Frederick, Maryland, class of 1985.  She continued taking classes for many years after graduating from college that she found interesting.  Nancy was the first woman to apply for and be accepted into the pre-engineering program at Albion College, Albion, Michigan in the 1950's.

Nancy enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, quilting, reading, long walks, botanical gardens, bird watching, art, theater, spending time at her cabin at Deep Creek Lake and traveling.  She was a long time member of Calvary United Methodist Church.  She also enjoyed preparing and serving her famous "firehouse chicken" for the homeless and making baby quilts for babies born with AIDS in Birmingham, Alabama.

Nancy was well traveled having been to Germany, Sweden, Denmark, Australia, India and Antarctica.  She spent three weeks studying penguins in Antarctica and upon her return home she put together a program she presented to fifth graders while she lived in Birmingham, Alabama earning the nickname "The Penguin Lady".  She was a very loving, kind hearted, giving lady who was loved by many.  She made friends easily wherever she went.  Nancy will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Nancy is survived by her two children, son, Robert Lawrence Webber and life partner, Jack R. French; daughter, Lauren M. Draper and husband Tim Draper, Jr.; grandchildren, John A. Hottinger, Jr. and wife Clara, Raven A. Hottinger and Jordan J. Draper; great grandson, Maverick A. Hottinger; sister and brother in law, Marilyn and Walter Baird; brother, Jack Brautigam; 9 nieces; 7 nephews; 10 great nieces; 8 great nephews; 2 great- great nieces; 2 great- great nephews, several cousins and two grand dogs, Zoey Webber and Daisy May Draper.  Nancy is also survived by her loyal best friend of over thirty years, Carole Daly.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike Frederick, MD 21702.
A celebration of Nancy's life journey will begin at 12:00 pm. and  a luncheon will immediately follow the service.  Rev. Ken Humbert will officiate.  Interment is private.
