Nancy Lee Goodman, 59, passed quietly from labor to eternal rest on September 20, 2010 , at home in the loving care of her family. She was born in Frederick MD to the late Audrey Lee Ellis and Jack Hoke Goodman.
She graduated from Thomas Johnson High School in 1969, and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Maryland , College Park , and a Masters Degree in Pharmacology & Toxicology from UMBC. One of her favorite expressions was, "Fear the Turtle".
She lived and worked many years in Baltimore , before moving back to Frederick , transferring from the National Institute of Drug Abuse to the National Cancer Institute at the National Institutes of Health, Bethesda . She was medically retired from there in June of this year.
She is survived by her daughter, Helen Lee Ann Goodman, at home, and her sister, Helen Mimsie Goodman. She will be especially missed by Corey Emswiler, her future son-in-law.
She was always a serious and devoted student, interested in many facets of life. She loved to research things on the computer. She was always a "dog person" and, until recently, had four lovable dogs close around her. In recent years she began making gemstone jewelry, demonstrating her craft at shows and selling completed pieces. She was a 35 year member of Frederick Chapter #79, Order of the Eastern Star, where she served as Worthy Matron in 1981.
An Eastern Star Memorial Service will be conducted at Stauffer's Funeral Home, Opossumtown Pike, Frederick , on Saturday, Sept. 25, at 11:00 am . The family will receive friends beginning at 10:30 am . There will be no viewing or formal service but friends will be asked to share their memories of her. Inurnment will be at Clustered Spires Cemetery , Linden Hills, at a later date.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in her memory to the Children's Inn at the National Institutes of Health, 7 West Drive , Bethesda MD. 20814-1505, or the Edmond J. Safra Family Lodge at the National Institutes of Health, 9650 Rockville Pike, Bethesda MD 20814.
