Nancy Ann (Wade) Derr, 70, formerly of Devonshire Road in Hagerstown, passed from this life on Thursday, June 23, 2011 at Broadmore Assisted Living in Hagerstown while surrounded by her loving family.
Born on December 17, 1940 in Boonsboro, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Paul Webster Wade, Sr. and Hilda Naomi (Sherley) Wade. Her husband, Richard Lee "Dick" Derr, Sr., preceded her in death in 2007.
She was a graduate of Boonsboro High School.
Nancy was employed for over 20 years in various departments at the Washington County Hospital, but will be most remembered when she worked as a Greeter in the Emergency Room.
She was a member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church in Hagerstown, the South County Democrat Club, the Dixon Troxell American Legion Post 211 Ladies Auxillary in Funkstown, Maryland and the American Gold Star Mothers, Inc.
Nancy loved to cook and bake for her family. She loved to spend time with her family, particularly her grandchildren, and she will be deeply missed by all.
She is survived by her son, Richard L. Derr, II and his wife Tamara of Hagerstown; her daughter, Dana A. Smith of Hagerstown; two brothers, Paul W. Wade Jr. of Hagerstown, and Kenneth L. Wade of Boonsboro; her sister-in-law, Mary Wade of Boonsboro; six grandsons, Richard L. Derr, III, Christopher L. Davis, Dennis C. Smith, II, and James A. Smith all of Hagerstown, Chad R. Davis of Germantown, Maryland, and Dylan Monninger of Wyoming, Delaware; her great-granddaughter Azriel A. Davis of Germantown; and her great-grandson Zaven L. Davis of Hagerstown.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Nancy was preceded in death by one daughter, Susan M. Guessford and one brother, David A. Wade, Sr.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 11 a.m., on Monday, June 27, 2011 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike in Boonsboro. Rev. Mike Henning and Rev. Edward J. Wade will officiate. Final resting place ceremonies will follow at the Boonsboro Cemetery.
Friends are invited to visit beginning at 9 a.m. on Sunday, June 26, 2011 at the funeral home, where the family will be present to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
